The sign says it all

This sign “THANKS FIRIES” pretty much sums up what the residents of Mt Kuring-gai and surrounds are feeling today.
This morning the last of the fire fighters packed up from the oval up the road that had become the ‘mission control’ centre during the past three days of fire threats.
We’re sorry, and of course glad, to see them go. There was plenty of air activity this morning but last night’s rain means everything is now under control. But our suburb looks a little different.
Driving out of our street you meet black bush and this continues from behind our houses up the hill to the oval about 700m away. Everywhere that bush borders our suburb you’ve got the charred remains of what used to be national park.
This evening my son and husband went out the back for a walk among the ash and Jay returned with an old golf ball burnt to a crsip.
I expect we will have to put up with ash being traipsed through the house, and black feet, for weeks yet.
But all is well that ends well I guess, is the feeling here. We have a great firebreak now ringing our homes and that will help protect us from bushfires for the next few years or so.So this evening when the telemarketer rang selling raffle tickets for the Rural Bushfire Service, I bought $50 worth!

Cara, we were really surprised to see barely any animals on the move. the only thing we saw was a possum which ran straight into the fires unfortunately. i think because the backburn was limited and there was bush between the fires that maybe they could find refuge? i haven’t seen any injured animals.

Hey Tezza
Glad everyone is well.
I reckon that golf ball Jay found is from the helicopters getting water from the Asquith Golf Club …
Cheers
