Well it’s seven days and counting in the house alone. Just over a week ago I dropped my whole life off at the airport and put it on a plane to Canada. My two boys walked out of my arms and into Customs, hand and hand: one age 44, the other soon to be just one of those digits. I have deliberating geared my life back to pre August 2003 (before kids), and this childless time is passing quickly. But it’s still very weird. Read the rest of this entry »

When I was stepmother to two little boys back in my twenties, I was constantly horrified at their use of guns, penchant for violent movies and rough play. No wonder nearly all murderers are male I tut-tutted judgementally, as they watched the likes of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Power Rangers. Now I have a little four-year-old pocket rocket myself, who makes guns out of Lego and loves nothing more than a rumble. And I love it. Read the rest of this entry »

There’s always talk when your kid hits two or three and they still have a dummy. You have to get rid of it eventually and there are many ways to go about this. My eldest Lucy had a dummy and was quite addicted, but at two and one month the dog next door took it (so she thinks) and that was it. No more dummy. We had a couple of hard days of withdrawals, but she got over it. Now, my second child Charlotte has never had a dummy. She’s a thumbsucker. Read the rest of this entry »
