This post by Yucky Mummy reader Leisa Chell (not actually a Mummy and not yucky either despite what she says), on turning 35.
I’m not dumb … hey I know Checkmate is more than just a condom brand! Ahhh being fun and single and not a yummy mummy, or a yucky mummy for that matter, should have numerous advantages living in the City!
Alas, I should clarify: Read the rest of this entry »

By Cara Rogers, Mum of globe trotter Nicholas, 3
There are so many myths about and fears associated with travelling with little kids. Even I must admit, when we boarded the plane at Heathrow behind very brave or insane parents and their four small children, I exchanged glances with the airhostess and crossed my fingers we were not sitting near them. This sign “THANKS FIRIES” pretty much sums up what the residents of Mt Kuring-gai and surrounds are feeling today.
This morning the last of the fire fighters packed up from the oval up the road that had become the ‘mission control’ centre during the past three days of fire threats.
We’re sorry, and of course glad, to see them go. Read the rest of this entry »

Everyone just loves this photo and I haven’t seen a better one in the media so here it is again, bigger.
This is our backyard last Sunday night in the middle of the back burn that helped save our house from the Sydney bushfires. Thanks so much to all the firies - there’s not a scratch on the cubby. As I load this up the rain is beginning to fall so I cautiously conclude: the Mt Kuring-gai bushfire is extinguished. For more photos see: www.flickr.com/photos/cowleybryce

Helicopters continue to thunder overhead, smoke is stinging my eyes and ash clings underfoot, but hey…the house didn’t burn down, so today is a good day. We finally crashed into bed at about 2.30am just after the firies left assuring us that “everything should be fine”. Read the rest of this entry »

This post has nothing to do with being a Yucky Mummy. It has to do with being a Mummy with a fire in her backyard! As I write a large back burn is progressing along behind the properties on our side on the street. We can only hope this contains the actual firefront if, and when, it arrives. Before I had a baby I was very fit. One of the changes I had to make during pregnancy was to reduce my exercise. Now the very phrase ‘reduce exercise’ is laughable to me. You mean there really are people who actually want to do more exercise than they’re doing and actually have the time to do it? But do not despair of me. I am not a totally lost cause. I have started swimming again! Read the rest of this entry »

Wiggles Christmas concert review by Yucky Mummy Melissa Loughlin
The wait is finally over. We’re going to see the Wiggles!!!! Charlotte, 2, and Lucy, 4, can hardly contain their excitement. Charlotte is wearing her Dorothy the Dinosaur t-shirt, carrying her Dorothy stuffed toy and singing “Dorothy, Dorothy, would you like to dance with me?” Lucy is doing her great impersonation of Murray playing the guitar (‘rock and roll face’ and all). They can’t wait! Top of the list for me is checking out the performance of the new Wiggle Sam Moran following the retirement of Greg Page. Read the rest of this entry »
