Hosting a children’s birthday party is stressful. Especially if you have a pedantic princess for a daughter. Our eldest Lucy turned four on the weekend, and had a Princess Party. She was dressed as Belle from Beauty and the Beast and looked just gorgeous. All her friends and cousins also came dressed like princesses (they’re almost all girls) and her “boyfriend” Jake was dressed as a knight (he looked very cute!) Read the rest of this entry »

I was raised a Catholic. For 13 years I attended Catholic school. As an eight-year-old I donned a white dress and veil as a Bride of Christ for my First Communion. At 11 I chose a saint’s name and was accepted into the church as an ‘adult’ for my Confirmation. Most Sundays I went to Church with my Mum. But somewhere, to echo an REM song, I lost my religion. I am working and my husband is not.
After three years of part-time work (including about a year of barely any work), I am back in the grind of five days a week of employment. And after 20 years of long hours, deadline stress, and climbing up the slippery pole, my husband is caring for our son, doing the housework, cooking and making furniture.
I have mixed feelings about it. Read the rest of this entry »

There are many people I know, in fact a few in my family, who think this blogging thing is very strange. “Why would you want to do it?” they wonder.
Now they are scratching their heads even more. I recently established a blog for my three-year-old son. It is boldly called ‘World’s Youngest Blogger’ (WYB) and I’m actually yet to find any younger in my self-serving, voyeuristic searches of the Net. Read the rest of this entry »
