There’s always talk when your kid hits two or three and they still have a dummy. You have to get rid of it eventually and there are many ways to go about this. My eldest Lucy had a dummy and was quite addicted, but at two and one month the dog next door took it (so she thinks) and that was it. No more dummy. We had a couple of hard days of withdrawals, but she got over it. Now, my second child Charlotte has never had a dummy. She’s a thumbsucker. Read the rest of this entry »

Just last week I was faced with a screaming child grabbing onto my leg as I left the childcare centre. It is a difficult situation for any parent. How can you leave, when your child is in such obvious distress? On the other hand, how will they ever learn that everything will be okay when you’re gone, if you stay. Read the rest of this entry »

By Cara Rogers, Mum of globe trotter Nicholas, 3
There are so many myths about and fears associated with travelling with little kids. Even I must admit, when we boarded the plane at Heathrow behind very brave or insane parents and their four small children, I exchanged glances with the airhostess and crossed my fingers we were not sitting near them. Wiggles Christmas concert review by Yucky Mummy Melissa Loughlin
The wait is finally over. We’re going to see the Wiggles!!!! Charlotte, 2, and Lucy, 4, can hardly contain their excitement. Charlotte is wearing her Dorothy the Dinosaur t-shirt, carrying her Dorothy stuffed toy and singing “Dorothy, Dorothy, would you like to dance with me?” Lucy is doing her great impersonation of Murray playing the guitar (‘rock and roll face’ and all). They can’t wait! Top of the list for me is checking out the performance of the new Wiggle Sam Moran following the retirement of Greg Page. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you heard? My son is going to be the next Ian Thorpe. Now that Ian has abdicated his throne as the world’s best swimmer, that leaves a nice little opening for my three-year-old.
As you can see from the picture above, he was getting into some training last night in the bath. Note how calm he is, floating loftily on his back. He could almost be asleep. I bet Thorpey was doing just this, every night, 21 years ago at home in Bankstown.
You see it’s about time my husband and I got some return on our investment in swimming lessons. Read the rest of this entry »

By regular contributor and Yucky Mummy Melissa Loughlin, mum of Charlotte, 2 and Lucy, nearly 4.
Well, I wasn’t thinking was I? Baby number two wasn’t exactly planned – I had hoped to have at least a three-year gap between babies, but it ended up being just under 23 months, way too close for my liking.
As my baby Charlotte turns two this week, and older child Lucy isn’t four til next month, they are numerically only a year apart in age, for about six weeks. Read the rest of this entry »

by Yucky Mummy Kylie Pither – Mum of Ruby, 3, and Finn, 11 weeks.
Well it’s finally happened. My baby has turned three and she is officially a “big girl”, although my husband and I have been trying to convince her of this for about 18 months.
We had been gearing her up for the big occasion for a few weeks: “If you don’t behave you will not get that (insert whatever) for your birthday and I’ll call all your friends and tell them there is no party for Ruby’s birthday!” Read the rest of this entry »

I had only been working fulltime for a few weeks when my three-year-old delivered this clanger on my arrival at home: “Oh Mummy! I thought you were dead!!!!”
It was amusing but also telling – clearly he had noticed my absence more than I had realised.
What amusing yet telling things has your child said lately?
